Every society faces a fundamental question: should we organize from the bottom up ☽ Yin or the top down ☀ Yang? In the material world, this crystallizes as capitalism versus communism. In the spiritual world, it is materialism versus spirituality. Either/or logic forces a permanent choice. Both/and logic reveals both contain the same optimization structure. Four-fold Laegna gives us precise symbols: I · O · A · E for values, Z · X · Y for space.

Capitalism vs Communism

Binary frame: "Capitalism: I am this, therefore I am NOT that." The negative is implied by the positive. This is linear thinking rooted in historical trauma — wars, revolutions, ideological purges became encoded in collective memory as permanent opposition.

SPIRITUAL MODE

Materialism vs Spirituality

Materialist critique: "Spirit people are idealists. They overvalue human sensation, or worse — measure material gain as psychological satisfaction, psychologizing spiritualism into uselessness." Finite, causal, clear-bound is the safe ground.

Spiritual critique: "Materialists deny the goal-directed nature of consciousness, reducing infinite recursive experience to mere chemistry."

Both critiques are binary: each negates the other.

NON-BINARY OPPOSITION — SEPARATE DEFINITION REQUIRED

Non-binary logic requires that we define the opposition separately — not just negate one pole to get the other. Whether a government should be communist, capitalist, or mixed is a specific case, not an eternal truth. The logical pair (capitalism ↔ communism) is not the same as the logical opposite (capitalism ↔ anti-capitalism). Laegna: A·E are the positive pair, I·O are the negative pair. They coexist in the same system. Forcing them into binary X-conflict is the error.

Three Integration Games

Positive of one is opposed to negative of the other. This is valid when full integration is impossible yet — not a permanent state. In binary logic, this is the only game: hate. In Taoist/Laegna, it is contextual.

Integration (highest)

Positive of one integrates with positive of the other. Minimizing negative in one minimizes it in the other. This is the Y-zone: plus-sum, moving target, forgiveness possible, genius emerges.

Coexistence (linear)

Both poles coexist without needing to merge or fight. A stable linear solution — the Z-zone root. Democracy and mixed economies attempt this. Buddhistic middle path.

Z-zone — log contraction — stable O·A coexistence

Binary logic sees only the first game — Situation / Hate — and makes it permanent. This is why either/or thinking equals zero-sum Nash equilibrium: no forgiveness, no integration, genius suppressed, only one can win. Both/and logic and four-fold Laegna unlock the other two games.
